Too far!
I am getting so tired of things that are supposed to be for children having adult undertones. My young boys were watching t.v. the other morning as I was paying the bills. I hear this moaning going on and music. I wheel around to see what was going on and it was a commercial! The one with Kirstie Alley advertising diet food. I was so mad! My oldest asked why she was making that noise. How was supposed to answer that?? Why was a diet food commercial being played on a childrens cartoon channel? This isn't all....I am tired of seeing cartoons where the girls can't find clothes that fit! I have boys and they are being subjected to this too early....Kat complains about a certain sponge that was seen wearing his underwear....I don't like that one either because of the adult undertones....and I see her point because she has girls. I want them to be innocent as long as possible. I don't want to have to explain what they meant when they said this or that. I don't want them watching girls or boys with smart mouths. I want to be able to watch a movie or a show that is supposed to be rated for the children and not sit there and hold my breath wiating for something to happen or be blind sided by something. I want them to enjoy their childhood and I want to enjoy it that they are young and INNOCENT!

Yeah! WTF ever happened to Bugs shooting Elmer and Roadrunner dropping Coyote off a cliff? That was some good fun! And Bugs in drag doing the cancan! I loved that!
I agree with you bubbles, it should be you who decides when your children see adult stuff.
I agree with kat also, I grew up with Bugs and the three stooges..now that was some great fun...and no I never hit anyone over the head dwith a hammer like Moe did...well not more than once.lol
There is a solution:
Turn off the TV.
I wanted to make something clearer....my kids do not sit in front of the tv all day like vegtables. they have a little time in the morning and a little in the afternoon. We listen to the radio....which is just as hard to sensor thanks to the commercials and dj's. and they have have straight up play time...no piped in noise at all. There is also quite time and nap time. Yes,turning off the tv is a solution. But my husband and I think that it isn't fair to deprive them of any t.v. at all.
I'm with ya Bubbles, my kids a little TV in the morning, and a little in the evening. A little TV never hurt you. I grew up in the age group of "latch key kids" who came home from school and were babysat for a few hours by the TV until Mom gets home from work.
And I turned out just fine!
I am with you 100% Bubbles I am not sure what the answer is. I mean yes I guess you could turn off the TV but thats no real answer. As a parent that has 2 adult children now they are exposed to enough when they start to school why should they be at the age of yours?
I think that it is all about what you let the kids watch. By the time the kids are watching Sponge Bob on Nick they are already aware of underwear and sexual differences.
Public TV gives you a say, to some degree in the programming and commercials, but private stations have a right to make choices to make the most money. They show the public what they want to see really.... based on ratings.
I think that kids get exposed to so many adult undertones in so many places. It is almost a good thing if you can be there when something comes on the screen so that you can explain it to them the way you see fit(Not just playground gossip).
Nice blog ty
I think the writers of children's entertainment have just gotten lazy. As Kat pointed out, the old WB cartoons had plenty of adult humor in them. However, it was presented in a way that most of the time it went over kids' heads. It was covert.
Unfortunately, this seems to be something of a lost art, as most of the adult themes in children's programming are directly in one's face these days.
Though, the commercials are entirely the fault of the networks.
All that being said, I've been known to let my daughter watch stuff that's a bit over her head. Nothing too terribly rique, but definitely not what would commonly be considered appropriate. It has afforded opportunities for some interesting conversations, and allowed her to wrap her brain around concepts she wouldn't otherwise be exposed to.
That would be "risque", not "rique"
I agree 100% ! In this day and time there are as you said some cartoons that have adult content undertones . Scooby Doo is the only thing that my kids watch on Cartoon Network because it seems everything else has the undertones . My kids stick to Disney . I am satisfied with the Disney channel and I find that I watch it myself when I have time to watch tv . (I don't watch tv hardly at all)
